Last night I finished writing the 10th and final song that is going onto my album. Pretty exciting moment for me I guess since I get to start fiddling with these songs and making them sound even better then they already do. I decided to stop at 10 songs for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, a lot of the songs that I have written actually go for quite a while. Off the top of my head they probably average 4.5 minutes long, there are some 6mins in there as well as a couple of 3.5 minute ones. Nothing below that though. So length wise it'll probably still be 13 songs worth crammed into 10.
Secondly, I noticed from some of the records I have bought, that the ones that only have 10-11 songs I know more of. You tend to get right through the album in one listen without turning it off to go do something.
I suppose a third thing is I felt like I had a good thing going with the songs I have been writing and I didn't want it to end abruptly while I was trying to write more. It's called quiting while your ahead.
I actually got this album written a lot quicker then I thought I would, I have been working on it pretty much every night. Evidence of this:
Used up all my QUT paper I had from uni in Queensland lol.
So, whats next? Work's pretty full on at the moment so in a couple of weeks I am going to go set my drums up out at my parents house (they live on 10 acres) and start recording drums for pre-production. Not going to spend ages getting the sound right. Just set them up, mic them up and record 10 songs. Should get it done in a couple of weekends. Then I will record all the guitars and bass for pre-production as well as the vocals.
But like I said, that may have to wait a couple of weeks. In the mean time I'll probably type up all the lyrics properly off my scribbles and start going through some drum riffs in my head.
Here's the song list, In order of first written to last written.
1. Bottles
2. Just a Dot Pt.2
3. Everyday
4. Costume
5. Original Flame
6. Passing Through
7. Just a Dot Pt.1
8. Trees
9. Define your Life
10. Standing True
and to my few friends who had actually heard the original 'Just a Dot Pt.1' back in the day and are wondering why I am not using that: it was crap, plus I can't even remember the lyrics nor half the song. So it has been re-written, from scratch.
After I type up all my lyrics I am going to post them up. Dunno where yet but it'll be somewhere
Cheerio!
